The Summer Seven

So, since graduate school (the first time) and then through working I have been a spinning instructor. I only like to teach September through May though. Essentially, I work Labor Day to Memorial Day. So I take the summers off and spend time outside in the summer and then work out inside in the winter. Basically though, ever since I can remember my summers are spent just having fun, drinking a ton, eating whatever I want and only doing a very minimal amount of working out; just enough not to get really fat.

However, if you eat whatever you want and drink more calories in a day than you eat for eight to twelve weeks straight it doesn’t matter who you are, you will gain weight. So every Labor Day for the last 7 years I have weighed 7 more pounds than I did on Labor Day. Sort of like the Freshman Fifteen but I call it the Summer Seven.

Two weeks before Labor Day a fat lady dropped her keys exiting the grocery store I was in. I couldn’t pass her because she took up the doorway and I didn’t want to be rude. So, while I was waiting I stepped on this big farm like scale to see what I weighed. What I saw ruined my whole day! Iwas 139! I thought maybe I had been better this summer, but alas, I was wrong. For 5’8” that’s not terrible but I just don’t feel healthy at that weight. I am sluggish, my running is slow, clothes don’t fit as well – you know how it goes.

I started my workout routine a little earlier than Labor Day this year to try to fight off any more weight. I just like to have control of my body. Maybe it’s weird but that is the way it is. I’ve dropped 4 pounds and feel better. I have a couple more to go. I actually feel a lot better lately. I really like running and spinning so it’s much better for me. I just miss the partying….LOL.
I hope you don’t see this post again as the Holiday 7!
